Before becoming a pastor, Rev. Otterness served as a navy pilot in World War II. After the war, he received his degree in electrical engineering from South Dakota State College and then began work for General Electric. His pastor at Iowa State thought Otterness had missed his calling. After working one year at GE, Otterness left his job at GE and began seminary at Luther Seminary in St. Paul.
Rev. Otterness has served parishes in South Dakota, Nebraska and Texas and has used the inductive study method for forty-five years with an excellent response. One pastor has remarked that Rev. Otterness's book on Revelations is the best book on Revelations ever written. These studies are being used by other parish pastors at the present time.
Rev. Otterness has been involved in the ministry to alcoholics for forty-five years. These studies have direct application to bring healing to people afflicted with the disease of alcoholism.
